Festival of Books

What I learned from the Festival and listening/talking to authors yesterday...

1) Rejections will come.
2) Eventually someone will read what you write.
3) If you are SERIOUS about writing you must Submit your stories/novel even if you get rejected.
4) Rejections give you a thicker skin.

that seemed to be the information passed around the whole day. Also, the guys at Archaia are AWESOME! thanks guys, the graphic novels will definitely help in the classroom.

-And if you haven't read Mouseguard... then you are lame so go out and read it, buy it, check it out from your library. It really is one of the coolest comics out there.

New Novel

So Here is a Word Counter for the new novel I'm working on. So far so good. Working on hashing out some of the ideas and the characters are already on board a ship called The Break of Dawn.

It'll be a fun romp with a lot of characters I've had in my brain goop for years. They've finally made it to the surface and are no longer fighting for places in the starlight.

Submission day...

So in a couple of hours I'll be submitting Onward! chapter 1 to the Magazine of Science Fiction and Fantasy. I'm not crossing my fingers but I know I had fun with it.
Peace and enjoy the holiday weekend.

Wasn't sure what to to do with this blog

I finally figured out what exactly I would do. I'd use this blog to keep my notices and submissions straight while teachingcomics.blogspot.com will remain my writing/short story posting site...

One More Rejection

Okay, so I have two formal rejection letters, a second place nomination for a contest (but no actual award or prize, it was only for the first place winner!), and three stories I'm working on. One's horror, the other two sci-fi/fantasy. Hopefully someone will read one of them and like it enough to publish it.
It would be nice.

I'm so lonesome I could cry...

Today was a really crappy morning. The train was late, the bus was late, the friggin everything was late. Except the crazies that walk the streets near and about Union Station here in L.A.
It still amazes me that sane people really want to try and have mentally ill people believe that they can be sane by believing in Jesus Christ, their Almighty Savior and Lord. What a bunch of crap. And that is when I truly feel sorry for the mentally ill being preyed upon by the Religiously Ill. Why can't Bible thumpers leave everyone else alone? This country was partially founded on the ideal that you can get away from religious persecution, yet here we are in the 21st Century and we haven't changed any since the Dark Ages.
We're such pathetic lifeforms at times. It's amazing that we've survived as long as we have.
Amazing what happens when you're allowed to say what you want on the net when you've had the beginnings of a bad day with very little sleep.
